Episode 55: Late Afternoon Train Trip Back to Kanchanaburi

If you time it right and board the 2:30 train from Nam Tok station, you should arrive in Kanchanaburi just in time to catch the sunset over the River Kwae Bridge. This timing is crucial, as it allows you to witness the breathtaking views and golden light that illuminate the scenic route back to Kanchanaburi, culminating in spectacular sunset shots of the iconic bridge. (please check sunset times and calculate 3 hours and you will be good.)

The Journey Begins

We board the train at Nam Tok station, the final stop on the historic Death Railway. The train chugs along the tracks, passing through lush green countryside and alongside the River Kwae. The late afternoon sun casts a warm glow over the landscape, enhancing the picturesque scenery.

Scenic Views

The three-hour journey offers numerous visual delights. As we travel, the train crosses the Wampo Viaduct, providing stunning views of the river and surrounding hills. The golden light of the setting sun adds an extra layer of beauty to the already breathtaking landscape. As the train winds through hills and valleys, we are treated to a spectacular visual feast, with the sun dipping lower in the sky, casting a magical light over everything. You get some great views, especially when the train passes through tunnels and over bridges.

Onboard Delights

During the journey, we enjoyed some delightful treats. There are food vendors on the train offering a variety of snacks and drinks. We had a pancake guy come by, serving delicious, freshly-made pancakes. There were also other vendors with cold drinks and local snacks, adding to the pleasant experience of the journey.
