A Hero's Legacy
Boonpong Sirivejjabhandu, known simply as Boonpong, was a beacon of hope for countless sick and suffering prisoners of war (POWs) during the dark days of World War II. His courageous efforts to smuggle medicine, money, and contraband food into POW camps along the infamous Burma-Siam Railway saved the lives of many, often at great personal risk.

A Heroic Partnership

Boonpong's daughter, standing steadfast by his side, played a crucial role in their daring mission to aid the POWs. While Boonpong negotiated with camp doctors and leaders, his daughter managed the shop, covertly passing messages and supplies to those in need. Together, they formed an indomitable team, risking everything to bring hope to the suffering. Today, his family continues to honor their legacy, managing the site and preserving the memory of Boonpong's heroic deeds.
The Path to Resistance

Initially contracted by the Japanese to provide supplies to the railway workforce, Boonpong soon witnessed the harrowing conditions endured by the POWs firsthand. Moved to action, he clandestinely joined forces with the underground resistance group known as the 'V' organization, sourcing cash and drugs to aid their cause.
A Network of Support
With the help of the 'V' organization, Boonpong orchestrated a network of support that spanned across various camps and communities. Foreign and local business owners rallied together, raising substantial funds to provide much-needed assistance to the POWs.

A Legacy of Sacrifice
Boonpong's tireless efforts extended beyond mere financial support. He personally lent money, cashed POW cheques, and even risked his own safety to smuggle vital supplies to those in need. Despite facing financial difficulties after the war, Boonpong's contributions did not go unnoticed.

An Honored Legacy
In the years following the war, Boonpong received recognition for his bravery and selflessness. Awards such as the MBE from the British and the Order of Orange-Nassau from the Dutch celebrated his unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid.

Boonpong
Boonpong shared a close connection with Sir Edward "Weary" Dunlop, another hero of the POW camps. Their collaboration during the war and support for each other afterward exemplified the bond forged through shared hardship and compassion. The stories of their partnership highlight the extraordinary lengths to which these men went to alleviate the suffering of POWs.
